2007 was a very challenging year for my family. It seemed everything from illness to a wildfire that threatened happened LAST YEAR. most of our possessions as well as many of our newspapers had to be moved into storage up north because of the wildfire threat. it is my hope that many changes will be coming in 2008 in regards to how you receive the articles/CLIPS you order & pay for.
All newly added indexes will be for digital images that will be sent to you in .jpg format over the internet once payment is received. Invoicing will be done thru pay pal. Once your payment is received, your image/s will be sent within 7 days.
E-mailed orders I have received prior to today, January 15th, 2008 will be processed at the previous cost. New orders beginning today will cost $5.00 for an item that is one image. Large articles will be quoted as we receive them. This rate change is due to the fact that this site is not paying for itself, the only costs being the website service.
Orders will be processed on a first come first serve basis once payment has been received. previous orders are being processed for the newspapers that are not in storage. please keep in mind that i work double shifts 6 days a week. thank you for your interest & patience.
In our 27 years of research as genealogists/family historians we have found that newspapers have provided some of the most interesting information about our ancestors and in some cases actually helped us knock down that proverbial brick wall. Unfortunately many newspapers we have searched for were not available on microfilm or we wanted the actual newspaper, so we began purchasing antique or collectible newspapers for the areas our ancestors resided. We found the same interesting information in High School & College Annuals/Yearbooks, so we also purchased many for areas we are researching. We feel that this is one of the best ways to view their lives as they were, kind of a window to the past.
Our intention for this site is to offer digital images or copies of articles in these "newspapers, annuals & documents we have purchased", for a minimal fee; saving you travel & research time. We DO NOT guarantee that the name you choose, from the indexes, will in fact be your ancestor. So research your ancestors migrating patterns. NOTE: If you e-mail us please put ORDER in the subject line or your e-mail will not be opened!!!!!!!! Too many virus's out there!
This site is where you might find a genealogical "needle in the haystack." We DO NOT guarantee that there are no typographical errors in the transcriptions of names in the indexes, typos can happen. We are NOT responsible for typos or incorrect information printed in the newspapers, and they do happen, so try different spellings and check possible other names that may be associated with a type of news. We are NOT experts in deciphering early handwriting so we are not responsible for errors. In using this site you are accepting the above.
Example: Susan Z. Smith, marriage. You have an ancestor by that name, check the index for a parent or spouses name or siblings names (as they may have stood up with her or she with them) check for any names that may be associated with that type of news and see if the type of news matches the image codes. Were they in this area in the year the news was printed? This might help, but not guarantee, avoiding articles which are not related to your ancestor. If the name is in an index of court documents and one name should be deceased in that year, do you know when their estate was probated? Sometimes this is the reason they are in a document from a date after their death.
Many times the item won't be an actual article but a short blurb/sentence or sentences. Many times all I found was the blurbs that really didn't fill in any of the blanks, but sometimes they explained relationships such as: A name that had been mentioned in talking with the family but didn't know much about them or how they were associated with my ancestor. Then I found a blurb that explained that relationship.
Sometimes the blurbs just said that they made a visit to another town to see relatives, but no names of these relatives. But it did give me a clue of where to look next for family and it was something tangible that I could hold in my hand that proved that they really did exist. No matter how small the finding I always considered it something more than I began with.
Search our state indexes for newspapers, annuals & historical documents or items, click on the state you wish and search for your ancestors name by using the find button on your toolbar or scroll down the alphabetical lists or use our new Pico Search (found below) to search our whole site. There will be a notation next to the name with the news type, be it an article, ad, gossip or social column (usually small blurbs of info), marriage, army and navy news, military, death, birth, engagement, announcement, etc.
The newspaper name & batch/page must be sent with the name & type of news along with the state page you found the name, when inquiring about number of pages and costs. Again, please put the word ORDER in the subject line of your e-mail as I do not open emails that say nothing or a persons name. I transcribe and build indexes which involve hundreds of thousands of names. Occasionally I might remember an unusual name, but not enough to risk opening up a virus, so please identify yourself by putting ORDER in the subject line. Please be sure to put all the index information in your e-mail, this saves me time finding the article.
Please be aware that this site is brand new and is being added to monthly if not weekly. It takes time to research these newspapers collecting names and compiling indexes, so please be patient and above all bookmark this site if you like what you see.
Please do not ask us to research a specific newspaper as we do not have all of any of the newspapers listed. Because of the fragile nature of these newspapers, we e-mail digital images or send out photocopies of a photocopy to avoid, over handling & to protect the actual newspaper. Eventually it is my hope that we will have all information available by digital image. Thanks for taking the time to visit.
For more information in obtaining digital images or photocopies of news please contact Mr. & Mrs. Faust at webmaster@underthedustnewsprint.com Please put ORDER in the subject line of your e-mail. Because of the virus & email attacks on the internet we will only open e-mails with "Under the Dust Newsprint" or "Order" in the subject line, so if you do not hear from us this is why.
1st E-mail us with the names, type of news if noted, name of newspaper, batch/page if noted & state page or code so that we can quote a total price of your order. When requesting more than one item, there is always the chance that more than one article can be digitally photographed or photocopied "at the same time "perhaps they were in columns that were side by side on one page" (8 1/2 X 11 sheet size page). Should that be the case you will only be charged for one copy. An order form is available on this site for your convenience.
Minimum order is $5.00 US per digital image or $5.00 U.S. plus a self addressed stamped envelope for a photocopy from the older indexes effective January 15th, 2008 payable via pay pal once you receive the pay pal invoice. We DO NOT accept stamps as payment. Please allow more postage for more than (3) 8 1/2 X 11 size or larger. All orders sent with stamps as payment will be returned in your self addressed stamped envelope minus the article ordered. We no longer accept personal checks as payment, due to the number of bad checks received. U.S. Postal money orders are accepted as well as pay pal.
Photo copies are made for orders received, twice a month. Don't forget to put the index lines you are requesting, on the order form, plus the self addressed stamped envelope in your envelope to us. This way we don't have to search for your inquiry e-mail to find out what article you were requesting. Orders we receive that were sent without the self addressed stamped envelope will not be filled. We will e-mail you notifying you of the missing self addressed stamped envelope.
If you have sent us an order please take into consideration that we work 7 days a week, six days being double shifts & it may take several weeks from the date we receive your request, to process your order; as I work a full time job, a part time job, and coordinate a volunteer genealogy website. Thanks for your patience.
